Message	air out of the are in front of the engine and to allow the crap that normally accumulates in the shield to exit. I suppose some will get bent but anything that does any serious damage is going to whack the crossmember pretty hard. In the 4 or 5 years I have driven my Z every day to work, I have never encountered anything that size. The stainless is pretty stiff and should withstand a fair amount of abuse. KK
